# CCTV cameras

> Place CCTV cameras with the in-game camera creator, and manage them from the admin panel.

CCTV cameras are props placed around the map. Officers watch their live feeds from the **Cameras** page, record footage, and identify people and vehicles. Cameras can be shot, hacked, and repaired.

![Live CCTV feed open in the MDT](https://mintcdn.com/redutzusscripts/jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk/images/guides/cctv-feed.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk\&q=85\&s=195a39ad51321024edcef9479d4cef76)

Watching a live camera feed

## Before you start

Officers need these permissions:

| Permission | Allows |
| - | - |
| `cameras.view` | See the camera list. |
| `cameras.create` | Place new cameras. |
| `cameras.connect` | Watch live feeds. |
| `cameras.toggle` | Turn cameras on and off. |
| `cameras.delete` | Remove cameras. |

Previews and recordings are uploaded, so set up [media uploads](https://docs.redutzu.com/redutzu-mdt/guides/media-uploads.md) first.

## Create a camera

**1. Open the form**

Open the MDT, go to **Cameras**, and click **Create camera**.

**2. Name it and pick a model**

Give the camera a name officers will recognize, such as `Mission Row lobby`. Then pick a model. The model decides what the feed can do: turn, zoom, or use night vision.

**3. Choose the departments**

Under **Department access**, choose which departments can see the camera, or leave it open to all.

**4. Open the camera creator**

Click **Open camera creator**. The MDT closes and takes you in game.

**5. Place, adjust, aim, and review**

Go through the four steps of the creator below, then press **Enter** to save.

**6. Create the camera**

Back in the form, click **Create camera**. The prop spawns for every player, and officers can connect to it right away.

## The camera creator

The creator places the camera in four steps. The keys for the current step are always on screen. Press **H** for the guided tour.

Green checks are fine, amber is worth a look, and red has to be fixed before you can save.

**1. Place**

You fly a free camera while your character stays put. Point the crosshair at a wall, ceiling, or floor. The camera sticks to it, flush and upright.

| Key | Action |
| - | - |
| Scroll | Turn the camera before placing |
| Left click | Place it (outline is green) |

You can only place a camera within your placing range, shown as an outline in game.

**2. Adjust**

Look at the camera from outside and fine-tune where it sits.

| Key | Action |
| - | - |
| Hold right mouse | Look around the camera |
| Arrow keys | Slide it along its surface |
| Page Up / Page Down | Move it out from or into the surface |
| F | Sit it flush on the surface and out of walls |
| R | Straighten it |
| Q / E | Turn it, on ceilings and floors |
| G | Open the gizmo for free movement |
| Ctrl / Shift | Move slower / faster |

**3. View range**

You see through the lens exactly like the feed. Set where the camera rests and how far operators can turn and zoom it.

| Key | Action |
| - | - |
| Q / E | Previous / next setting |
| Mouse | Change the setting |
| X | Play the whole range |
| R | Reset the setting |
| Tab | Switch between lens and outside view |

The settings are the default view, pan left and right, tilt up and down, and zoom in and out.

**4. Review**

Test the feed exactly as operators will. Move the mouse and scroll to try the range.

| Key | Action |
| - | - |
| Backspace | Go back to change something |
| Enter | Save, and take the first preview |
| Esc | Cancel |

> [!TIP]
>
> Press **Z** to undo and **Y** to redo in any step. New cameras of the same model start from your last camera's view range, which saves time when you place a row of them.

## Manage every camera

Admins can see and edit every placed camera, whatever its departments. Run `/mdtadmin` and open **CCTV manager**.

![CCTV manager listing every camera, with search and filters](https://mintcdn.com/redutzusscripts/jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk/images/guides/cctv-manager.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk\&q=85\&s=53c64a071b466de9e1d26ae35e47d61b)

The CCTV manager in the admin panel

* **Find:** search by name, street, model, or number, and filter by online, offline, destroyed, or missing.
* **Teleport** to a camera, or **Move in game** to open it in the creator. Admins can move a camera up to `AdminMaxDistance` from where it is.
* **Turn off**, **Turn on**, **Repair**, or **Respawn** a camera whose prop was removed.
* **Export** and **Import** camera layouts to copy them between servers, such as from a test server to production.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Deleting a camera removes it from the world and the MDT. Its recordings stay in the gallery.

## Placing range

```lua config/config.lua theme={null}
Config.Cameras.Creator = {
    MaxDistance = 25.0,       -- how far officers can place from their character
    AdminMaxDistance = 150.0, -- how far admins can move a camera in the CCTV manager
    CapturePreview = true,    -- take the first preview through the lens when saving
}
```

You can also change these in `/mdtadmin`, under **Cameras**.

## Camera models

Each prop model sets what its feed can do. The built-in models cover every GTA CCTV prop. To use a custom prop, add its model name:

```lua config/config.lua theme={null}
Config.Cameras.Models = {
    ['my_custom_cam'] = {
        lensOffset = 0.2,   -- push the view forward so the housing isn't in frame
        moveable = true,    -- the feed can turn
        pitchMin = -60.0,   -- lowest tilt
        pitchMax = 10.0,    -- highest tilt
        yawLimit = 90.0,    -- degrees each side, false = 360
        zoom = true,
        fovMin = 15.0,      -- most zoomed in
        fovMax = 70.0,      -- most zoomed out
        nightvision = true
    },
}
```

> [!TIP]
>
> Tune models in `/mdtadmin` under **Cameras**, then **Models**. **Tune in game** places the prop in front of you and shows the feed live as you change each value.

![Camera model settings in the admin panel with Tune in game open](https://mintcdn.com/redutzusscripts/jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk/images/guides/cctv-model-tuning.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=jYySSRvwCjpWaAJk\&q=85\&s=629602a38c28a8a4fa36cae6fd4683eb)

Tuning a camera model in game

## Damage, hacking, and repairs

| Feature | What happens | Setting |
| - | - | - |
| **Damage** | Shooting a camera breaks it, and it goes offline. | `Config.Cameras.Destroyable` |
| **Hacking** | Players run `/hackcam` near a camera to take it offline. | `Config.Cameras.Hack` |
| **Repairs** | Officers repair broken cameras with the `cctv_repairkit` item or `/repaircam`. | `Config.Cameras.Repair` |

All of these can be changed live in `/mdtadmin`, under **Cameras**. The damage presets go from **Fragile** (2 hits) to **Indestructible**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> To repair with the item, add `cctv_repairkit` to your inventory like the [other items](https://docs.redutzu.com/redutzu-mdt/installation.md#add-the-items), or set `Repair.Method` to `'command'`.
